Our Team

Yuvraj Juwaheer

Managing Partner

Yuvraj, the Managing Partner of YKJ Legal, brings a wealth of legal experience to the firm. He holds an LLB Hons degree from the University of London and completed his bar vocational course at the Bristol Institute of Legal Practice. Yuvraj was admitted to the Bar at the Middle Temple in London and the Supreme Court of Mauritius in January 2008. He holds memberships in prestigious professional bodies such as the Society of Trusts and Estate Practitioners, the Corporate Governance Institute, the International Fiscal Association (Mauritius Branch), and INSOL International.

With over thirty years of experience in the global business sector in Mauritius, Yuvraj has held significant roles, including managing partner at Bedell Cristin (Mauritius) Partnership and partner at Citilaw Chambers in Port-Louis. He also served as an executive director at Multiconsult, a leading management company in Mauritius, from 1992 to 2008.

Varsha Boodhoo

Partner

Varsha, a highly skilled Barrister at YKJ Legal, specializes in corporate and commercial law. She holds a degree in law and criminology from the University of Kent. Varsha's expertise encompasses investment funds, corporate and commercial law, regulatory affairs, and banking and finance, earning her recognition in the IFLR 1000 rankings.

Varsha completed her Bar Vocational Course at the University of West of England, Bristol, and was called to the Bar at Middle Temple, UK, in 2009 and at the Supreme Court of Mauritius in January 2011. With a background in corporate and commercial law, Varsha joined Bedell Cristin (Mauritius) Partnership in 2011, where she later became a senior associate in 2015. Her practice focuses on a diverse range of transactional matters, including banking and finance, trust, mergers and acquisitions, regulatory affairs, and cross-border transactions. Varsha provides guidance on investment funds with a particular emphasis on the African market, India, and China, catering to a client base comprising banks, high net worth individuals, and corporate entities.

Vikram Seesunkur

Partner

Vikram, another highly experienced Barrister at YKJ Legal, specializes in corporate law matters. He obtained an LLB Hons degree from South Bank University, U.K., and completed his Bar Vocational Course at Northumbria University in Newcastle, U.K., in June 2005.

Vikram was admitted to the Bar of England and Wales at the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn in November 2005 and subsequently called to the Bar at the Supreme Court of Mauritius in December 2006. He began his career as an Associate at Appleby in Mauritius and later joined the Bedell Cristin Mauritius office in 2012. With extensive experience in the global business sector, Vikram has advised numerous international clients, including banks, financial institutions, borrowers, and private clients, on various commercial and corporate matters.

Before focusing on corporate law, Vikram practiced as a barrister in private practice for approximately three years, gaining valuable experience representing clients in various Courts of Mauritius, including the Supreme Court. His practice encompassed both civil and criminal law.

Mark Helyar

Consultant

Mark Helyar, a highly regarded Guernsey Advocate, serves as Of Counsel at Bedell Cristin in Guernsey, Channel Islands. Previously, he held the position of founding and managing partner at the firm from 2006 to 2016.

As a Barrister of Grays Inn and a Notary Public, Mark holds multiple degrees and has pursued studies at universities in the UK and France, including Caen University. His expertise lies in the utilization of protected cell and incorporated cell companies for investment funds, reinsurance, insurance, and insurance-linked securities (ILS), earning him recognition as a leading practitioner by international independent legal directories.

Mark has provided guidance to foreign governments across Europe, the Middle East, and Asia, as well as their regulatory authorities, on the drafting, establishment, regulation, and utilization of segregated cell companies. From 2012 to 2014, he held the position of Batonnier of the Guernsey Bar Council. Throughout his career, Mark and his team have received numerous nominations and international awards for pioneering ILS transactions, including the world's first private listed catastrophe bond (Solidum), the first-ever Takaful securitization structured as a Sharia-compliant note (Salam III), and the distinguished recognition of "Life deal of the year 2016" for SQ Re Vita II at the Trading Risk Awards.

Since stepping down as a partner in August 2016, Mark has focused on strategic business development matters with clients. Additionally, he serves as a director for various Guernsey regulated insurers, reinsurers, investment funds, and ILS issuers/transformers. Mark played a pivotal role in establishing the Bedell Trust operation in Mauritius and has been involved in structuring numerous cross-border transactions using Mauritian companies over many years.
